What is the Financial Competency Training Series (FaCTS)?

This series of classes are offered to any MU employee with fiscal responsibilites.These 1 to 1.5 hour classes can be taken in any order and are beneficial to all MU employees from new to seasoned Tigers. Sessions are free. To see course information, see below!

Introduction to Being an Effective Fiscal Associate

This intro session will provide an overview of how the University is structured, key finance policies, an overview of University fund accounting and common transaction types. Additional resources for being an effective fiscal associate will also be discussed.

Who should attend? 
Associates or employees with fiscal responsibilities including office support, executive assistants, business specialists, PI's, and supervisors with financial responsibilities.

Understand what your responsibility is when you are processing and/or approving various financial transactions.

Who should attend? 
Anyone who is a creator, entry delegate, fiscal reviewer, PI or other approver of financial transactions including office staff, fiscal managers, directors, PI's, etc.

University Accounting: An Overview of Fund Accounting

Learn what Fund Accounting is, the difference between restricted & unrestricted funds, and what chartfield values are in order to appropriately manage financial transactions.

Who should attend? 
Anyone who has a fiscal role including processing, oversight and approvals.

Learn about the appropriate methods to acquire goods and services, as well as relevant policies and tools available.

Understand what "financial oversight" is, why it is important, and University tools for providing effective and efficient financial reviews.

Employees who are responsible for reconciling, verifying and/or analyzing the financial status of a program, department, unit or other organization within MU.

Budgets: An Overview of Mizzou’s Budget from a Campus-wide Perspective

Learn about why budgets are important, as well as the timeline and tools used for budgeting at Mizzou. An overview of financial resources and trends will also be discussed.

All fiscal officers as well as anyone responsible for planning and managing financial resources of a program, department or other unit within MU.

One Card: Policies and How To's

This session will provide an overview of policies, procedures and tips for efficiently and effectively utilizing the university "One Card" resource.

Who should attend?
All One Card cardholders. Please note: This training is informational and policy focused. It is not meant to replace mandatory new cardholder and renewing cardholder training. To learn more about mandatory training, click HERE.

Hyperion and COGNOS Reports

These lab sessions will provide a hands-on environment for end users to interact with and ask questions about the Hyperion and COGNOS reporting options.

Who should attend? 
Anyone who has a fiscal role including processing, oversight, and approvals.

This training requires security access to the Hyperion and Cognos tools. Please speak with your supervisor prior to enrolling to ensure you have access.

This course introduces you to contract processes.  Learn about what offices are involved, where and how to submit contract documents, typical timelines, and what resources are available to support your contracting activities.

Employees involved in creating or processing contracts, making contract-related payments, and/or overseeing contract performance/completion.
